Immerse yourself in a visual reinterpretation of Charles Perrault's timeless tale, Le Petit Poucet (Tom Thumb). This complete editorial design project aims to refresh an ancient text and iconic illustrations, captivating a young and contemporary audience.

The mission was twofold: to make a 17th-century narrative, written in old French, accessible and appealing to children aged 5 to 7. It also involved integrating and modernizing Gustave Doré's original engravings, whose style could appear dated. The objective? To create an immersive and relevant reading experience, three centuries after its initial conception.

My approach was rooted in minimalism to maximize visual and narrative impact. The illustrations, all in black and white and derived from a process of cutting and stylizing Doré's engravings, are precisely designed to illustrate each scene and create a direct visual dialogue.

The entirety of this editorial design work aims to powerfully convey the narrative tension, the young hero's resilience in the face of adversity, and the poignant contrast between childhood innocence and the dangers encountered. A contemporary design that proves even classics can be reinvented to continue captivating and inspiring young minds.
